Heritage Festival in Ho Sheung Heung

The Heritage Festivals that AWA takes their members on are a great way to experience Chinese Culture.  We went to the celebration of the deity Hungshung’s birthday celebrated by the Hau Clan.  They are one of the 5 major clans in Hong Kong . They settled in the New Territories about 800 years ago. There are lion dances, dragon dances ,drumming, incense, offerings made to the deity, food and celebrating. They do a scrambling game with gun powder to catch the coveted idol.  They put on an opera with a professional Cantonese troupe.  We were lucky to  be able to go back stage of the opera to get a behind the scenes look at the sets, costumes, make up and extras.   It was a great day full of culture.
